Teenager’s Orthodontics
At Treehouse Orthodontics, we understand that teenagers are at a stage where they need to feel understood and involved in their healthcare decisions, and that includes orthodontic treatment. Our approach is all about clear communication and making sure teens know exactly what's happening at each step of the process. We work hard to get them involved in their own treatment plan, so they feel a sense of ownership and responsibility for their progress.
By treating our teenage patients with maturity and ensuring they’re comfortable in our practice, we create a welcoming environment where they feel relaxed and at home. We believe that when teens feel informed and valued, they’re more likely to stay engaged and stick with their treatment plan.
The Goals of Teenager's Orthodontics
The teenage years are the perfect time to correct alignment issues and ensure that your smile is set up for long-term success. By this age, most of the permanent teeth have come in, and orthodontic treatment can address any problems like crooked teeth, gaps, or bite issues that have developed.
Many teens may feel uneasy about their smile or uncomfortable due to misaligned teeth, and orthodontic treatment is designed to help alleviate these concerns. Straightening teeth and aligning the bite not only improves oral health but also helps teens feel more at ease with friends and at school, knowing their teeth look and function at their best.
Orthodontic care during these years helps to set a strong foundation for a lifetime of healthy, well-aligned teeth.
Phase 2 (Ages 13 - 19)
Phase 2 orthodontic treatment typically begins during the teenage years when all permanent teeth have erupted, and the jaw is still developing. This phase is focused on fully correcting any alignment or bite issues that were identified in Phase 1, or that have subsequently emerged as the permanent teeth have come in. By addressing these concerns during adolescence, we can make sure that the teeth are properly aligned as the face and jaw continue to grow. This reduces the chance of complications later in life and ensures that teeth function effectively for chewing, speaking, and overall dental (and even whole-body) health. Ensuring your child receives orthodontic treatment during this phase of their life is critical if they are to achieve optimal alignment and bite before growth is complete. If that doesn’t happen at this stage, the problems can be much more difficult, and even impossible, to correct later on.
Comprehensive Orthodontic Treatment
Comprehensive orthodontic treatment for teenagers addresses all aspects of dental alignment, including both functional and cosmetic concerns. Whether your teen needs braces, Invisalign, or other appliances, this treatment aims to correct crowding, gaps, and bite issues while enhancing the overall appearance of their smile. Comprehensive care is most effective during the teenage years when the body is still growing and teeth are more responsive to treatment, making it the ideal time to complete orthodontic care.
Invisalign for Teenagers
Many teenagers prefer Invisalign as a treatment option because it offers a more discreet way to straighten teeth. The clear aligners are virtually invisible, which can help reduce any unease teens may feel about wearing traditional braces. Invisalign is also highly flexible—aligners can be removed for meals, sports, and special occasions, offering more freedom than metal braces.
The aligners are custom-made to fit each teen's unique smile, gradually moving teeth into their correct positions. For teens who are concerned about how orthodontic treatment will impact their daily life or appearance, Invisalign provides an effective and subtle solution, allowing them to go about their lives without feeling self-conscious or restricted by their treatment.
